Prayer Times in Johannesburg

Today in Johannesburg (Sunday, 8 November 2026, 28 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH), Fajr is at 03:50, sunrise at 05:14, Dhuhr at 11:53, Asr at 15:22, Maghrib at 18:29 and Isha at 19:48 local time (UTC+2).

The times are calculated for -26.2041°, 28.0473° with the Muslim World League (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°) method, the convention most widely used in South Africa, and the Standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) rule for Asr. Your local mosque may add a few minutes of precaution or use a different method, so its timetable takes precedence.

The qibla from Johannesburg is 15° from true north (NNE), on the great-circle route to the Ka'bah 5,446 km away. Today at 11:42 the sun stands exactly in the direction of the qibla, so shadows point directly away from it, an easy way to check the direction without a compass.

On the December solstice, the longest day of the year in Johannesburg, Fajr is at 03:41, Maghrib at 18:59 and Isha at 20:25; the time from Fajr to Maghrib, the length of a fast, is 15 h 18 min. On the June solstice, Fajr is at 05:32 and Maghrib at 17:25, a fast of only 11 h 53 min.

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier every year, so over a 33-year cycle the fasting day in Johannesburg ranges between these two lengths. See the Ramadan 2027 timetable for Johannesburg for suhoor and iftar times.
