Ashura is the 10th of Muharram. The Prophet ๏ทบ fasted on it and said it expiates the sins of the previous year (Sahih Muslim). He also intended to fast the 9th, so many Muslims fast the 9th and 10th.
For Shia Muslims, Ashura is the day of mourning for Husayn ibn Ali, martyred at Karbala in 61 AH.
