Ramadan رمضان
"Scorching heat"
Ramadan 1448 AH begins on Monday, 8 February 2027 and ends on Monday, 8 March 2027 according to the Umm al-Qura calendar.
About Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth and most important month of the Islamic year. Fasting from dawn (Fajr) to sunset (Maghrib) throughout the month is one of the five pillars of Islam (Quran 2:183-185). The Quran was first revealed in Ramadan, on Laylat al-Qadr, "better than a thousand months" (Quran 97:3).
Laylat al-Qadr is sought in the odd nights of the last ten nights; the 27th night is the one most widely observed. Many Muslims spend the last ten days in i'tikaf (retreat in the mosque) and pray Tarawih every night of the month.
The Battle of Badr took place on 17 Ramadan 2 AH, and the conquest of Makkah in Ramadan 8 AH. Ramadan ends with the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, which announces Eid al-Fitr.
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. Its start depends on the crescent: countries that follow a calculated calendar or a local sighting can begin a day apart.
